@paul_wp I don't think Git on the server would be faster than sftp as you need to wait 60 seconds for a Cron to fire before it will start.

@paul_wp @trepmal True. You can definitely deploy via Git itself if it's running on the server though.

@paul_wp @trepmal You can also run a Cron on the server, which automatically pulls the changes in every minute.

@paul_wp @trepmal Yes, you can deploy with Git. I use Beanstalk a lot, which has a built in Git deployment system.

Tip for the day: Disable logs in the redirection plugin for WordPress (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/redirection/). Otherwise it'll fill your DB up mega fast!

@trepmal I've never seen the Github app. For visualisation I sometimes use Git GUI. There's a Mac app. called Tower which seems popular too.

@DeFries Nope, never seen it. I just copy and paste the old fashioned way for .org 🙂

@DeFries For Git? Just something very simple I wrote myself. It doesn't handle commit messages though, which rules it out for most purposes.

@trepmal I set up a handy little bash script this evening for doing rapid commit/pushes for one of my repos. One click to deploy 🙂

The server can do http requests just fine. Any ideas how to debug a faulty WordPress update checker?

As soon as I sent my last tweet I had an epiphany and suddenly thought to check if the server can do https requests.

Any ideas on what would cause a WordPress install to stop showing plugin updates?
