@markoheijnen I always assumed @Otto42 's Facebook and Twitter connect would be the way to go. But he seems to be not supporting those now.

@miss_jwo I was looking at the widget code. Might be good for us to use transients instead of WP Cache. Better for shared hosts then.

@noeltock @daankortenbach Your own layer is certainly more forwards compatible. Admin theming in WordPress is not very reliable long term.

@noeltock @daankortenbach Did you consider using a PHP framework instead of WordPress? Removing /wp-admin/ is a big step.

Do any of you have preferences for how to handle third-party automatic update systems in WordPress plugins?

@paul_wp I don't think Git on the server would be faster than sftp as you need to wait 60 seconds for a Cron to fire before it will start.

@paul_wp @trepmal You can also run a Cron on the server, which automatically pulls the changes in every minute.

@paul_wp @trepmal Yes, you can deploy with Git. I use Beanstalk a lot, which has a built in Git deployment system.

@trepmal I started the same way too. I quite like deploying stuff with Git now though. It makes for a much smoother process.

Tip for the day: Disable logs in the redirection plugin for WordPress (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/redirection/). Otherwise it'll fill your DB up mega fast!
